Return of the Life-Size MOON MONSTER Poster!

A cherished memory from the golden age of mail-order novelties is available once again courtesy of artist Jason Willis—and it’s still ABSOLUTELY FREE!

IF YOU WERE reading comic books back in 1970 you probably remember the screaming, full-page advertisement for THE HORROR FAN CLUB!, purported to be America’s only horror fan club and promising monster masks, glossy photos, a horror movie news bulletin, and even a badge and membership card to anyone who signed-up for the low, low price of one dollar. But for most kids, the biggest single enticement to join the club, the thing that had you running to check the mail box every day for weeks on end, was the Moon Monster—a life-size poster depicting the most GHASTLY! HIDEOUS! WEIRD! and GRUESOME! creature anybody had ever seen. And it could be yours—ABSOLUTELY FREE!—just for joining.

Still worn with pride.

The Moon Monster stood over six feet tall and had spikes for teeth, and the fact that there were actually astronauts walking the lunar surface in those days only made the whole thing seem more real and terrifying.

Like I said, it’s a cherished memory. But 1970 was along time ago, and unlike other novelties from the period, paper posters don’t hold-up well. So you won’t find too many original Moon Monsters for sale on eBay. However I am thrilled to report that now, not only can you print out your very own brand new replica life-size Moon Monster poster, but also everything else that came with membership in the Horror Fan Club as well!

And for that we have Jason Willis to thank. He’s an award-winning filmmaker and multi-media artist who truly understands why this stuff matters. He’s made the poster and all contents of the Horror Fan Club membership package available in large, high-quality files you can download free and then process at any print store. He also offers detailed breakdowns of print-quality options and what they might cost—even for the badge (pictured, above).

You’ll find everything you need on Jason’s awesome website.

But before you go, watch the Moon Monster come to life in this wonderfully realized short film Willis made about two years ago.

Thank you for bringing back memories from my childhood. Yes, I was a Famous Monsters and friends collector. Unfortunately hurricane Katrina robbed me of about 90% of my collection. I’m slowly rebuilding. Again, thank you. Daniel

Thanks for the kind words, Daniel. You’re just the kind of person for whom I posted this. Sorry to hear about your collection, but have fun rebuilding it!
