How to Make a MIDI Drum Kit Out of Pringles Cans

These snack-sized skins sound great, and they give you a great excuse to stockpile potato crisps!

AS A LIFELONG desk drummer, I’m always on the lookout for novel and exciting ways to create boombastic beats without having to move around much. Happily, I stumbled upon the Pringles Can MIDI Drum Kit.

This delicious experiment in percussive Pringles is the brainchild of a mad genius known only as Ian H, who has generously made the instructions for this project freely available on the DIY website Instructables.com. Please note, it’s a serious electronics project, but not so difficult that it should scare off beginners.

Watch this video for a sound sample. You’ll be impressed.
